The Monkees song 'Circle sky'.

This is another song that i love. It's from the band's only movie (which i still haven't seen) and it's a country-rock song.

That's why i love it so much. I love country and rock music, and Mike/Michael Nesmith was a pioneer in making country-rock music. He was also a pioneer in making music video's. Not bad for a guy who was in a make-believe tv band.

Of course, The Monkees are so much more than just a make believe tv band, but that's for another post.

Anyway, back to the excellent 'Circle sky', it's sung by Mike, and i think it's one of the best song's ever recorded. The live version is even better than the original. Worth a listen to either if you get a chance.

'Drag me to Hell' is excellent.

I watched this for the first time the other night, and i have to say that it's probably gonna be one of my favourites, as i loved it, and wanna get the dvd so i can re-watch it whenever i want.

I didn't find it scary at all. I did find it really funny, though. It has a bit of gunge in it, but i grew up loving 'Fun House', so for me gunge is good :) it has virtually no blood in at all (one scene does have a little blood in it, but it's funny as opposed to being gory) and it's fun to watch.

I also loved the main character and her boyfriend. They seemed like nice people (i know they're not real, but still...) and i actually cared about what happened to them.

This is a fun movie. I loved it, and would watch it a million times over. I think even people who don't like standard horror movies will like this, as it's not full of gore or blood.

The Wallflowers 'empire in my mind'.

I think this is my favourite song ever. Word's can't describe how much i adore this song.

It was used as the theme for the 2nd and 3rd season's of the very good U.S drama 'the guardian' (starring a pre-mentalist Simon Baker), and that's how i discovered this song.

I have heard this song was written especially for the show, and if not then it matched the theme of the show excellently.

The song has a lot of meaning, and is about doing right and wrong. It's about someone who is maybe about to do the wrong thing and wondering why he's doing it.

It makes a lot more sense if you ever listen to the song. Or even just read about 'the guardian'. They both match up perfectly.

Jakob Dylan is a brilliant song-writer and singer. He is up there amongst one of my favourites ever.

Some quotes from 'The Monkees' tv show.

The title explains it all, really.

Peter: I don't think you're guilty, i just don't see how you could possibly be innocent.

Micky: I'm glad you cut out the part where i tripped, 'cause that wasn't a very good scene at all.

Davy: Oh 'ello. I'm selling magazine subscriptions.
The General: Oh, working your way through college, eh?.
Davy: No, i'm working my way down the block.

Peter: What did i do?.
Mike: I don't know man, but don't do it again.

Micky: We're going to try to scare you, so don't be scared.

Micky: Pick a number between one and ten.
Mike: Um, fourteen.

Peter: Is it true that there are no two glove prints alike in the world?.

Micky: We just came here to have our clothes ripped off.

Mike: You wanna read my palm?.
Micky: Nah, i'll wait 'til they make it into a movie.

Micky: Stand up, Davy, and show them how tall you are.
Davy: I am standing up.

Mike: Do you know we haven't worked in a month?.
Peter: Gee, it seem's more like four weeks.

Some 'Monk' quotes.

I LOVE Monk. It's a very quotable show. Here's some of the best quotes that were used in the show.

Natalie: It's not going to do us any good if we both panic.
Adrian: You're right. Let's take it in turns...i'll go first.

Adrian: You are a doctor, can't you make her come back?.
Dr. Kroger: What would you like me to do?. Fly back to New Jersey and drug her and bring her back here?.
Adrian: No, thank you. She's pretty smart. She would probably escape.

Adrian: I can't talk now. I'm trapped in a cave.

Adrian: And if it wasn't you, they would just hire some other bim...
Natalie: 'Some other' what?. Bim what?.
Adrian: Bimportant person.

Natalie: He did it.
Adrian: He's not even a suspect.
Natalie: Damn.

Stottlemeyer: The, um, wife filed a complaint against me, said i had been harrassing her.
Adrain: Why would she say that?.
Stottlemeyer: Uh, probably because i was harrassing her.

Stottlemeyer: This taste's like chalk.
Adrian: What's in it?. Chalk extract.

L&O:CI goodbye Zach and Serena. Spoilers maybe.

Just finished watching the 9th season of 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent', and i have to say i enjoyed season 9.

Granted, the majority of the season was a Bobby and Alex free zone, but i really enjoyed the chemistry of Zach and Serena, and Jeff Goldblum and Saffron Burrows really seem to get along really well, and they work really well together, and i am actually quite sad to see the end of their characters.

I have to admit, i have turned into a bit of a Zack and Serena shipper. I wrote a little fan fic about their relationship.

But, the plus side is that we should have Bobby and Alex back for the 10th (and final) season. It's only right that it should go out the way it came in, with Bobby (hopefully) getting back to his quirky crime-solving best.

Some memorable 'Justified' quotes.

The show is full of great dialogue, this is just a few of my favourite quotes.

Raylan: You didn't happen to bring a rocket launcher, did you?.
Boyd: I didn't think to pack one.

Ava: Why did your marriage end?.
Raylan: It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Art Mullen: Maybe he's become some vigilante.
Raylan: Hmmm, maybe he's Batman.

Gary Hawkins: Raylan? you're not wearing your hat.

Ava: Didn't the district attorney order you to stay away from Boyd?.
Raylan: It was more of a suggestion.

Dickie Bennett: I seen you and your big hat on tv the other day.
Raylan: How did it look?.
Dickie: Like always.

Dewey Crowe: I can't drive handcuffed to the damned steering wheel.
Raylan: You'll get the hang of it.

The shield is one of the best shows ever made.

That's not just my opinion, a lot of people say the same thing. And rightly so.

It's not the easiest show to watch at times, it's quite dark with graphic violence, but it's really worth it. The show is blessed with excellent writing and characters that are wonderfully flawed, played by actors that really seem to know their characters, and always give top-notch performances.

The lead character, Vic Mackey, is a loving father and also a somewhat corrupt cop, who can be both heroic and dangerous. He get's results, but with sometimes questionable methods.

My favourite character's are 'Dutch' Wagenbach (even after the infamous cat incident), Curtis 'Lem' Lemansky  (the strike team member who always seemed to be uneasy with what his friends were doing, but was always dragged into most  things anyway. He was the nice guy of the team) and Shane Vendrell (he's ruthless, but quite flawed, and Walton Goggins acting is superb).

If you love crime drama's, then you should check out this brilliant show.

Little bit stressed today.

It's been one of those days today. I had to change my dress, as the first one i spilt coffe on. And then i got ready for an appointment i didn't need to come to. I replied to a tweet on twitter and totally misplelt half of the words. I need to send some emails, and i can't remember my new e mail address, the one that i use for jobs. I have left the username in my diary, which i have forgot to put in my bag.

On the plus side, i got to see my boyfriend, so not all bad today.

The Monkees song 'P.O Box 9847'.

This is another one of my favourite song's. It's about a man who is trying (and failing) to write a lonely hearts ad.

The thing i adore about this song are the chorous parts. The verses are Micky (he sings lead on this song) describing himself, writing the ad, and then the chorous parts are his frustrations of not being able to find the right words (i've described me very poorly', 'I've been writing advertising that's not really me' and 'I'm not liking what i'm typing' are all lines that make us realize his frustrations).

Who thought that a song about such a simple situation could make such a great song?.

My primary school had a ghost.

Rumour has it that, a few year's before i went there, a caretaker had a heart attack and died in the art block, which was a seperate building from the school, and at the other end of the grounds. The caretaker's ghost occupied the art block.

I know it sound's a bit 'iffy', but there was certainly a ghost in there.

It was always freezing cold, even with the heating on. Lights would turn on and off by themselves. Chairs would go flying across the floor, and nobody was near them to kick them, this was one end of the room to the other. Stuff would 'fall' off tables and shelves for no reason. There was very odd thing's going on, which couldn't be explained.

We had to stop using the building when one girl got locked in a cupboard, which strangely had no key. No-one could open the door. We had to get the fireman to come and get her out. That was in my last year.

The school got knocked down a few years back. No idea what happened to the ghost.

'Daybreakers' is an excellent film.

It's a sci-fi horror movie, set in 2019, when earth is infected with a virus that turned most of the population into vampires.

A vampire scientist, Edward, tries to develop a blood substitute, as humans are becoming an endangered species.

I love this movie. It reminded me a little of 'near dark', which i also like. I won't spoil anything for you guys who have yet to watch this.

This is very good. Yes, it's a bit gory (i didn't think it was that gory at all, but some people seem to think so) but if you love your films with character develepment, and the character making some kind of 'journey' through a film (like i do) then you should check this out.

Not all single parent families are trouble.

I was raised by my mum. I turned out ok. My best friend was (mostly) raised by her mum alone, and she is now a youth worker.

Society really pisses me off with their 'stereotyping' of the average 'asbo' family. They are all one parent families, who's mother's are sluts and the family have numerous siblings, each with a different dad, and while sometimes it's true, most of my experience's tell me it isn't.

My estate used to be REALLY bad, and the kids causing the bother were from 2 parent families, who were just bored, as they had nothing to do.

And, hello media, some single mum's (and dad's) have no option but to be single parents, due to death's, abusive spouses etc, so how about you not label every single parent as 'trouble' and 'with loose morals', as it's better to raise a child alone, than it is to raise them in an abusive environment.

One of my most embarrassing moments.

I was at work one day, and i was asked to empty a trolley full of things that had been left at the checkout.

So i started to take the trolley around and made a start emptying it, but customers started asking me where things were, so had to leave the trolley a few times.

When i returned to the trolley, i pushed it around and started emptying the remaining contents, when a man asked me why i had removed things from his trolley.

Yeah, i had been emptying the wrong trolley, and to make matters worse, my boss thought that it was hysterical, and told everyone, and people at work kept reminding me of that incident.

I may share some more funny moments i have totally embarrased myself. There's a lot of them.

Woohoo! 24 is coming back.

I loved '24'. In fact, for the first few season's i was obsessed with it. I loved the twist's and turn's and Jack Bauer is one of the best tv characters in tv history.

So, i am excited that the show is coming back. Ok, it's not gonna be 24 episodes, but 12 hours of this excellent show is better than none.

Just one thing, please, if Kim is returning, don't put her in stupid situations and have her doing even stupider thing's. If she does return, i'd like to think she's matured and is kept in the background.

Also, Chloe has to return (please). Jack and Chloe work SO well together.

All in all, i am a very happy 24 fangirl. Can't wait to see the new episodes.

Why isn't 'Project Runway' shown in the UK anymore?.

I loved 'Project Runway'. I wanted to be a fashion designer when i was growing up, and seeing a show where fashion designers create a specific outfit was really interesting to me.

It seemed to be on sky1 all the time, and then it just dissapeared. I know it's still airing in the states, but it doesn't seem to air over here any longer.

That's why i loved the 'Great british sewing bee', It reminded me of 'Project runway', in the way that you saw dresses and bags (amongst others) being made.

I just wish we had a chance to watch 'project runway' over here. As more and more people seem to be developing a love of crafting, i think it would be a nice inclusion to tv schedules.

I learn from They Might Be Giants songs.

I love this band. They are one of my favourites. I actually LEARN stuff from their song's.

Like, i had never heard of James Ensor, until i heard their song 'Meet James Ensor', and found out he was a painter. And James K Polk, was the 11th president of the USA, another fact i learned from TMBG.

And, i remember Istanbul was Constantanople because of that song. And i learnt about supertasters (they, apparently do exsist) because of another TMBG song.

I remember song lyrics better than more thing's, and if i can learn facts within song lyrics, then it's a bonus.

Should Man City's manager be sacked?.

I really need to stop blogging about football, but i'm watching the football at the minute, and i have opinion's about what i'm seeing, so sorry for the football talk.

I can't even attempt to spell the Man city's manager's  name, as i'll get it very wrong, but i was watching the F.A cup yesterday, and some reporter guy asked him about if his job was on the line. I mean, come on, really?. They're 2nd in the table, is that really that bad?. Ok, they don't have a cup, but they're not knocking on the door of relegation either.

And, with Man United being all change next season, it could take a season or two to get used to the new regime, so i say give him one more season in charge, and see what he does, and how he manages, and decide then.

So, It's the end of an era at Man United (another football post).

No matter what you think about Manchester United, i think you have to admire Sir Alex Ferguson for what he did for that club. And for his VERY long service to the club.

In these days, when loyalty of players and managers seem's to be non-exsistent, here is a man who has spent over 20 years at one football club, and yes, Man United haven't done that bad with him as manager, but i honestly think that he really does care about that club, and today, being his last home game in charge, it really is the end of an era in football.

Love or hate Man U (i'm on the fence, myself), i think it's right for today being all about Sir Alex's departure.

My boyfriend, a little post about him.

I never thought that i would get so lucky as to have an amazing boyfriend as the one i have.

It sounds cheesy, but he is my perfect man. He's funny and he takes care of me, and is fun to be around (and puts up with my moodiness) and he's very cute and sexy.  He also gives the best hugs, ever.

I've never been in love before i met him, and i am in love with him very much. It's easy with him, no mind games or drama's, it's just fun and he makes me very happy.

I am glad it never worked out with any of the other guys before him, as none of them could make me as happy as he makes me. He's very special and i wouldn't trade him for the world. He's mine. I'm very happy with him, and nobody else could ever take his place.

Monkees 'Goin' Down'.

I adore this song, it's one of my favourite ever song's. It was written by all four of the Monkees (and Diane Hilderbrand),with Mikey Dolenz singing lead vocal (brilliantly, as usual).

It's a jazzy, fast song (some have even refered to it as the first rap song) about a drunk guy, who has decided to commit suicide and then, after jumping into the water, changes his mind.

It was released with 'Daydream believer' (another one of my favourites from the band), and this is the song that made me fall in love with the voice of mr George Micheal Dolenz.

Even if you have no idea who the Monkees are, you need to hear this song, as it's one of the best song's i've ever heard.

Monday, 6 May 2013

I've been drawing this afternoon.

All i seemed to do at primary school was draw or make something (or doing some play), but it was cool, and i enjoyed it.

As i got older, i became very aware that my drawing skills are non-exsistant, and for a while, i stopped altogether. I feared that i would be ridiculed for my lack of skills.

Then, something important happened: I realized that i don't actually care if people think my drawings are crap or not. I got inspired from a monkees fan site, when one fan shared her art, and stated that she doesn't care if her drawings were shit or not, she enjoyed doing them, and thats all that mattered to her.

Well, same here. I enjoy drawing, and ok, i may not be the next Da Vinci, but i'm not gonna stop because i have limited talent. As my mum always says, practise makes perfect. You never know, one day i could be (but i doubt it). Still gonna draw, though.

Should job interview clothing include some personality?.

I do the standard 'Trouser's, jacket and white top/blouse' for my interview outfit, but i have been reading more and more about including some 'personality' into your outfit.

I wonder if that is a good idea, i mean we are somewhat 'programmed' what to wear for job interviews, you know the usual 'look smart, clean and look like everyone else', but i'm starting to think it IS a good idea to add some individuality to your clothing.

I mean, we are all different, and i feel at times, we lose ourselves in interviews, you know saying what they want to hear, instead of what we want to say, and i think that saying "this is me" in some way is a good idea.

I know the next interview i go to, i am gonna add a bit of 'me' to my outfit, and see how it goes.

I never got to meet my Grandad.

My grandad, Joseph Robert (or Roy, as he was known to his family and friend's) died about 4 years before i was born, so i never got to meet him.

I know all about him, as my mum and Grandma, when she was alive, talked about him all the time.

I know that he survived meningitis, i know he had several heart attacks, that eventually killed him.I know he once had a fight with a ciggarette machine, which ended with machine falling off the wall.

Just because i didn't get to meet him doesn't mean that i didn't get to know him, because i did.

In a way, i feel that he touched my life in some part, even though he wasn't physically here. I know he was a survivor, who adored his only daughter, and his wife, and i know that if he were alive then he would have been majorly proud of me too.

Favourite stand-up comedian?.

I wish i could say that my favourite comedian was cool and 'out-there', but i can't.

My favourite conedian is Tim Vine. I like silly thing's, and he says and does really silly thing's, so i find him really funny.

I also like Michael McIntyre and Peter Kay too.

I do like Eddie Izzard and Rhod Gilbert, so they would go down as my "Cool" choices.

I also watch a fair bit of stuff John Bishop does, just random tv show's, when i'm channel hopping, and he's good too.

I also like Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller, too. Seen their show a few times, and enjoyed it.

I also find Lee Mack quite funny, but i don't seem to find Miranda Hart funny at all, even though people rave about her. I think it's just my sense of humour.

I have to start watching 'Not going out' more reguarly, i watch it now and again, but it's on my list to get on dvd at some point.

Prince of nothing charming. Tyler Hilton. Correction.

Tyler Hilton did write this song, apparently inspired by his girlfriend, so i was wrong.

I got it confused with a song with a similar name that was out in the 80's.

Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know that i was mistaken, and Tyler (and a friend) wrote this amazing song.

'We love the monkees'. ITV. Last night.

I watched this documentary last night, and i have to say that i was a little dissapointed.

I dunno if it was meant to be a tribute to Davy Jones (it fitst aired last year), as a lot of the show seemed to focus on him. There was no Mike, and the producers seemed to miss out a big chunk of the band's history.

Also, they talked to some fan's, who liked either Davy, Mike or Peter (it turned out 2 of them were best friends). Where was the Micky fan girl?.

I did like the story about Micky doing a improv concert for a bunch of schoolgirls in a park, and them singing back to him. It seemed a really cool experience. Wish i could have been there. I don't think the woman telling that story was a Micky fan girl. He had fan's, still does, and he seems so sweet and funny, and amazing. And has one of the best voices in pop history ever. They could have least talked to one Micky fan.

I hope, if they do another documentary on the band, they choose to tell the entire story, not just one bit of it.

Guilty pleasure number five. Mutant X.

I know it wasn't the best sci-fi show ever made, but i really enjoyed Mutant x.

Sky 1 used to have it on when i came home after work, and it was perfect chill out tv. After spending the day on the checkout, making conversation with customers (most of them wanting to know what had happened to the shop that was previously there), and trying not to ger stressed when management wouldn't answer the 'help needed' call, mutant x was the perfect way to de-stress. It was great entertainment.

I haven't watched the show for ages, and recently i have wondered if i should get some dvds (HMV have some in the swap shop) and re-watch some of them.

No, it wasn't the best show ever, but i enjoyed it.

CSI: Morgan's love life is confusing me.

I think she's meant to like Greg. And maybes, Greg likes her. Not sure about the 'who likes who' situation of that pairing.

But, isn't Hodges into her as well?. Or is she into him?. The way she talked about him to the girl who was kidnapped the other week (i am UK channel 5 pace, by the way), she called him her best friend, and the way she said it made me think she may have wanted more. And they did kiss when her dad was in hospital, so i'm a bit confused over who Morgan likes.

Every episode seems to have her going in the direction of liking one or the other, and i can't keep up with it.

Also, didn't she like Nick?. I know he was dating someone, but i'm sure he told someone he wasn't serious about the girl he was dating, which i thought meant that maybes Morgan had a chance with him.

I don't know. I, personally like her and Hodges together, but i love Greg, so Morgan with either would make me happy. Just pick someone for her. Please.
