'The porpoise song' by The Monkees.

Possibly the best theme song ever to a movie ('Head'), this is a brilliant song.

As mentioned, it's the theme from the only Monkees movie, and it was co-written by Carole King (i love her music, too) and it's a very under-rated song.

How can you not love a song that has the line "Riding on the back's of girrafes for laugh's is alright for a while".

This song is actually a good representation of the movie (which i am STILL looking for on dvd. If they can release Justin Beiber dvd's them why can't they release the Monkees film?. Rant over.) it's a psychadelic (is that spelt right?) pop/rock track, that features lead vocal's from Micky (through the verses) with Davy doing the high notes in the chorous. And it's a brilliant song.

I am working on writing a novel.

I usually write short stories, but i have decided to challenge myself and write a novel.

I have a few idea's. I'm in the middle of writing down my idea's, planning what happen's when in the story. I will see what look's best when i finish writing the 'plan' and go with what look's best.

May even decide to go with two of the idea's, and then if i get stuck with the story, or one doesn't go to plan, i can work on the other.

One idea is about an ex-con, who find's out her old life isn't quite as over as she thinks, when she's confronted by her past.

Another idea is about a detective who find's out that the man who was convicted for killing his wife is actually innocent, and how that affects his 'moving on'.

And another idea is about a woman who goes back home for the funeral of her step-father (who she had an affair with) and learn's  some secrets and confronts her past.

Still work's in progress. But who knows? they could be my best selling novel.

'Here in Pleasantville' by The Wallflowers.

I love The Wallflowers. Jakob Dylan is a fantastic singer/songwriter. I'm a bit of a fangirl.

I love this song. It's about a guy who is reflecting on a past relationship, or maybe a relationship that's falling apart.

It's a beautiful song, though. Worth a listen if you ever get a chance.

In fact, the whole of 'Red letter days' is worth a listen. It's got some fantastic song's on it, including 'Here in pleasantville'. One of my favourite albums in my collection.

Maybes a post for fan's of The Monkees. Or music trivia fan's.

I have read and heard that 'cuddly toy' by The Monkees,  is about a gang bang.

If that is true, then could somebody PLEASE explain to me what i'm missing in the song to explain that.

I really thought that it was about a guy, who is a bit of a player, sleeps with a girl, and then dumps her. I think that i have been hearing something totally different to other people lol.

I am a HUGE X-files fanatic.

I first got into the show when i was at high school. My friend (also called Dawn) and i would go to the school library and pick book's for the other to read. Kinda like a challenge. She was a bit of a bookworm too, as am i.

One day, she gave me a 'X-files' spin-off novel to read, and i was hooked.

I had never read anything like that before. I loved 'Sweet Valley high' and 'the babysitter club', and this book was the total oppisite of this. And i loved it.

I started watching the tv show too, and became hooked on that, too. It really sparked my interest in the paranormal, and my love of sci-fi. It was scary but it was cool and funny.

I even liked Dogett (i can never remember if it's one 'G' or two) and Reyes, they kinda 'freshened' the show. And i am a 'Lone Gunmen' fanatic, too. I LOVED the spin-off show. 'The unusual suspects' is my favourite episode. It has also has 'Munch' from 'L&O:SVU' too.

Word's cannot describe how much i love this show.

I need to watch 'Arrested development'.

After watching a few Jason Bateman movies the past few week's ('The switch', 'the break up', 'Horrible bosses'), i have turned into a bit of a fan, i have realized that, even though i have read about 'Arrested develpoment', i have never actually watched it.

I think the show is some kind of 'ultimate' in his career, or that's the impression i get anyway, and people are always saying how good it is, so i have to check it out.

Also, i may get 'Couple's retreat' on dvd, as well as 'the change up'. I haven't seen either, but the 'change up' has Ryan Reynolds in (i'm a bit of a fan) and 'couple's retreat' may have Russell Brand (who i, personally, can't stand. There's just something about him i find annoying) in it, but i'll put it on mute, or fast forward his scene's. It has Kristen Bell in it (i'm a fan of her's), so another reason to watch. Even if it's bad.

Not liking 'The Expendables' either.

With everyone saying this was a good movie, i decided to watch it.

I found out everyone lied.

It's the most boring film i have ever seen (and i've seen a few of them). It's like 'grumpy old (and middle aged) men'. I get it's 'testostarone' and all that, but if i wanted to watch a group of men just hit each other for two hours, i would have watched boxing, or something.

Seriously, some kind of story would have been nice, but, to me, it seemed the story came second to the guys fighting. It IS possible for action movies to have a story, as well as action.

It's not helped that 75% of the 'actor's' are wooden, and the character's appear dull.

Sorry if i have missed the whole point of the movie, guess it's just not my thing.

'Person of Interest' quotes.

I love this show (as i have mentioned once or twice) and one of the reason's is because of the dialogue, such as these.

Finch: If i were to speculate as to the reason for your labored breathing, detective...
Fusco: I lost her.
Finch: That would be it.

Reese: You know, teaching can be a dangerous profession.
Finch: Yes, i imagine espionage is a much safer choice.

Reese: Secretive, solitary, he's just like you, Finch. So, how did you get his number?.
Finch: Well, John, there's this machine.....

Finch: This really isn't working...one of us always been here...minding the baby.
Reese: You're the one who stole her.

Finch: Not everyone is a social butterfly, Mr. Reese, for some of us, human interaction is....difficult.
Reese: Not calling it 'human interaction' may help.

More quotes from 'The Monkees' tv show.

Davy: You'd think at three in the afternoon, there'd be somebody at city hall?.
Micky: Maybe they're on their coffee break.
Peter: How long is their coffee break?.
Mike: From nine to five.

Davy: This king kidnapped me, and want's me to marry his daughter.
Micky: Nice looking?.
Davy: Well, you know, he's not bad.
Micky: No, no. His daughter...

Peter: C'mon Davy, quit foolin' around. What tv show was she watching?.
Micky: Our's i hope.

Davy: Peter, as my devoted houseboy, what will your main function be?.
Peter: I am born to serve my master and live only to perform his bidding.
Davy: Right, now get me my comb.
Peter: Get it yourself.

Davy: Some cat came up and said 'You wanna shoot a movie?' and we said 'yeah, we shoot a movie' so we shot a movie.

Micky: Be careful, i may never play the guitar again.
Davy: But you're the drummer.

Peter: I'm not a horse. I'm a monkee.

Micky: Tune in next week, ladies and gentlemen, when we're another minute short.

Some quotes from 'Charmed'.

'Charmed' was a tv show about 3 sister's who find out they are witches. Here's some of my favourite quotes from the show.

Leo: Piper, he's going to kill me when he find's out.
Piper: Don't be ridicoluos, you're already dead.

Daryl: You froze the crime scene.
Piper: Uh-huh.
Daryl: You cannot freeze a crime scene.

Piper: I dreamt an animated musical last nightl Is that normal?.

Piper: Yeah, sure, why not?. We could have another funeral tomorrow. I mean, all the dishes are out and we pretty much know who to invite.

Paige: Is there something we don't know, that we should know, you know?.

Daryl: Okay, where is this baby everybody keeps talking about?. Is it an invisible baby?. Am i gonna step on it?.

Piper: Don't act blonde.

Yes, i read 'Mills & Boon' books.

Actually, they're my mum's book's, but i am always going into her room and borrowing one to read.

I read a lot of different kind's of book's, and some are very long, and some are quite 'dark' (i love crime novel's, and some of the crimes in the book's are a bit disturbing, just how i like them lol) so it's nice to have a short,  'fluffy' book to read once in a while.

I'd love to be a 'Mills & Boon' author. I write 'romances' (they usually have a 'main' plot, like a murder or something, and the romance is written in second) i have no idea if my stories are really suitable for their line's of book's anyway.

And i have to actually finish one lol. I write whatever comes into my head, and that can mean writing six scenes for six different stories in one day. It's crazy but it work's for me.

I'd actually like to self-publish. No, i won't make million's, but at least my stuff would be 'out there' and avaliable.

Is 'Die hard' the best movie franchise ever made?.

The 'Die Hard' movies are amongst my favourite movies ever. They are funny, action-packed, suspensful and John McClane is one of the best fiction characters ever created.

Even the less-than-perfect movies in the franchise are better than most movies out there.

I think the first 3 movies in the series are 3 of the best film's ever made. 4 is ok, i didn't find it dreadful. I haven't seen 5 as of yet (still getting over the dissapointment of it being hacked to pieces, and all of the best bit's being cut out: it certainly seem's that way) but it's on my 'must watch' list.

I do think 'Die hard' is the best movie franchise ever created.

I need to watch the Rob Zombie version of 'Halloween'.

I don't actually care how bad it is. I don't care how different it is from the original. I need to see it.

I need to see it because my favourite Monkee (and one of my favourite singers of all time) Micky Dolenz has a cameo  appearence in the film as a gun shop employee. That is reason alone for me to watch it. There's another movie he has a cameo in (a worse one, apparently. Something like 'Mega shark vs mega snake' or something like that) and, when i find out what it is, i'll be putting that on the 'film's to watch' list, too, no matter how bad it is. The Micky cameo will be worth it.

A couple of thought's about 'neighbours'.

Ok, i watch 'neighbours' quite regular, and i have a few thought's about the current characters.

Matt and Mason have to be THE worst character's ever. i really don't get the whole 'Mason is hot' thing. He's miserable at best. Why would Kate even be with him?. And Matt is so wooden, it's painful to watch.

Speaking of Kate, how much of a 'Mary Sue' is she?. She's perfect. She can do no wrong. Men fall in love with her instantly. She's a teacher (even though she attended one class at uni) and, did i mention she's perfect?.

Sonya i used to love, but the whole 'I want a baby' story has totally ruined her character (along with the revelation she was Callum's mum). I want quirky, free spirited, fun Sonya back.

I enjoyed Steph's return. It's sad her entire life fell apart, and her time in jail only added to her misery. It show's how much damage post-natal depression can do.

And Kyle. I like Kyle, but if they keep cheating on his girlfriends with Kate, then that won't last long.

Remembered a couple more actor's i like.

Rob Morrow, from 'Numb3rs' and 'Northern Exposure'. I love both 'DR Joel' and 'Don Eppes', so my love of those character's probably inspired my love of the actor who play's them.

I also remember watching Matt Czuchry in a little known tv show called 'Hack' a few years ago. Then on 'The Gilmore Girls' and now as Cary on 'the good wife'. Enjoyed his roles on all three shows, so i am adding him onto my list.

If any movie or tv show has any of these actors in, then i'll (probably) happily watch it.

Wednesday, 19 June 2013

I seem to be fan's of actor's no-one has heard of.

I do like some well-known actors (Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, for example), but i do tend to like actor's that are not that well known.

I am a big David Hewlett fan. I think the geek's out there will know who he is. I also like Adrian Pasdar and Jack Coleman (they were both in heroes). Liked them in everything i've seen them in.

I am a big Callum Keith Rennie fan. I loved 'Due South', and that's where i first saw him, but i have seen him in lots of thing's and he's really impressed me.

Titus Welliver and Currie Graham are in lot's of stuff i watch, and i really like them, too. I often wonder just how they aren't cast as leads.

Vincent D'onofrio is a great actor.

I also like Nathan Fillion and Walton Goggins, too. These are more well known, though. Michael Emerson is great too. Love him in 'Person of Interest'.

Some quote's from "Gilmore Girl's".

I love this show, about a quirky single mother and her daughter. It's full of witty quotes. Here's a few of them.

Lorelai: The plural of 'cul-de-sac' is 'culs-de-sacks'?. That doesn't even sound english.
Rory: That's because it's french.

Paris: What if there's no-one else?.
Rory: Then you'll buy some cats.

Rory: How about 'waffle'?. We could call you 'waffle' and say you're from Belgium.

Luke: I figured there was someone in the picture.
Lorelai: You did?. How?.
Luke: Just clues, you know, you never dressed weather-appropriate, that kind of thing.

Lorelai: I hate fighting with friends.
Rory: That's what enemies are for.
Lorelai: And, God knows, we have our share of those.

Rory: I find nothing exciting before eleven.

So 'Devil' and 'Hitman' were both a let down.

This will contain spoilers.

I wanted to see both film's. I thought i'd have a bit of a dvd marathon on Friday night and watched them both.

I really like Timothy Olyphant, but 'Hitman' just bored me. There didn't seem to be a story, just the main character walking a lot, and the odd gun shot. I lost interest in it, and ended up reading a magazine during it. I wanted action, and this just didn't excite me.

'Devil' started off good, but then it got a bit...dull. It didn't help that we got the cliched 'alcoholic cop who lost his family' character (does every movie cop have to be an alcoholic?. It's starting to feel like it) and i felt the ending was too obvious and too neatly wrapped up. I wanted the detective to be the devil and not forgive his wife and child's killer. If that guy was so sorry, then he should have handed himself in.

I just felt let down by it, and thought it could have been so much better than it was.

The song 'ode to Billie Joe'.

I know there's a film and book 'based' on the song, but i really don't think, personally, the event's of the book/film match the song.

I really don't think Billie Joe in the song, was gay. I don't think he commited suicide because he had a homosexual encounter.

I think Billie Joe and Bobbie were secretly dating, because her family didn't approve of him. Her mother seemed to like the minister, so maybes she thought he was more suitable for Bobbie.

I think Bobbie was pregnant. That's what they were arguing about after church. And i think the baby was what the pair threw off the bridge. The baby had died, and they couldn't tell anyone, so disposed of the body on their own.

And Billie Joe died because a) he was devastated about the baby dying and b) chose that bridge so he could be close to the baby.

I know Bobbie Gentry hasn't revealed the story behind the song, but it's good that,40+ years after the song was released, people are still talking about it.

Simon and Garfunkel 'The only living boy in New York'.

This is another song i love (i have a lot of them, but i'm not very good at making my mind up) and i adore Simon & Garfunkle anyway's, and this is one of my favourite song's by them.

Paul Simon wrote this song to Art Garfunkle, who had started a second career as an actor at the time. The name used to address Art is 'Tom', which is a reference to the duo's first 'group', which they called themselves 'Tom and Jerry'.

It's a lovely song, and one of the first song's i ever heard from the group. It's from the excellent 'Bridge over troubled water' album, and the whole album is filled with excellent track's and worth a listen.

Chick flick's i like: 'The Proposal'.

Ok, there is a little of the cliche moment's in this film, but what i like about this film is that it's actually funny.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have great chemistry, and that comes across on screen.

The plot is quite simple. Margaret is a bitchy career woman, who blackmail's her assistant, Drew, into marrying her so she can stay in the USA (she's canadian). They go to visit his family, and then they start to get to know each other better, and Margaret has a change of heart.

It also features the worst male stripper (or second worst: there was a scene in 'friends' which may count as the worst) scene.

I like this film, also, as it's not soppy. Ok, there is the odd cliche, and it's not exactly ground breaking, but it's a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

So torn over 'saw' (no pun intended).

I have seen about 15 minutes of the 1st 'saw' film. I do know about the twist and what happens.

I also know that everyone i know who has seen it says it's really gory. My friend, Rachel's ex (who is a horror fanatic) was almost sick when he saw it. But, that may not have been just about the movie.

Anyways, i kinda wanna watch it. I've always said 'cube' is much better (i love that movie) but how can i judge if i've never seen 'saw'?.

I am also strangely fascinated by how much gore there actually is in the movie. I guess i wanna see if it's as bad as people say it is.

But, the other part of me wonders if i'm being sensible just staying away from it, and if i could handle it.

I dunno. I guess i will just have to see if my curiosity gets the better of me.

Monday, 10 June 2013

I think i still need to 'explore' a couple of issue's.

As i write this, my mum and half of the neighbours are having a discussion in the street. And i'm hiding indoors.

I have no idea why i can't talk to my neighbours. I have no idea why i WANT to be hidden away, out of sight. It's bizzare, as i am quite sociable when i'm away from home. Weird, i know.

I also am a bit noise-anxious. There again, i have no idea why. I wish noises didn't affect me as much as they did. But they do.

I also think i am a little social-anxious, as i was paranoid when trying to eat a sandwich the other week. I thought EVERYONE was looking at me. I felt a bit over-whelmed.

It's something that i am gonna look into getting help with, as i don't want any issues i have impacting on the way i live my life.

'Heartbeat'. Who was the best "Leading man"?.

I guess this post is aimed towards the people who used to watch 'Heartbeat'. I live with a big fan of the show (my mum) so have been forced to watch countless episodes.

So, who was the best leading man?. I think Steve was my favourite. He didn't have many storylines, but at least he didn't get married off to some doctor (every main character seem's to end up with a doctor or nurse). It was sad when he left (it's very sad, but won't spoil it for you).

I liked Joe as well, but maybe that's just because i liked the actor (i remember watching him in 'take the high road') when i was a kid.

Please don't hate me for saying this, but in my opinion, Mike and Rob were a tiny bit wooden for me to really care about. Sure, they were 'alpha males'. But boring.

I liked Nick, too. It's really sad when Kate left and he was left to raise baby Katie.

I also liked Phil. Thought he was far more likeable than some of the 'leading men' they had in the show.

Chick flicks i like:'My big fat greek wedding'.

I like this feel-good rom-com, about the romance between greek-american Toula and non-greek Ian, as it's a sweet story about how they fall in love and Ian tries to win over Toula's family.

There's no silly 'misunderstandings' stopping the pair being together. There's no cliche chases to the airport claiming undying love for each other. It's just a sweet (and actually very tame) story about two people falling in love (as i've already mentioned).

It's a good Sunday afternoon movie, or cold winter night kinda movie, as it really cheers me up after i've watched it. It just makes me feel happy. That's why i like it so much.

Taking a break from the pill.

I decided to use this time that my boyfriend and i are not seeing each other as often as we usually do to have a pill-free month.

I just wanted to check that everything is 'ok' without the pill. I've read a lot about how the pill can mess up all your hormones and things, and i just wanna give my body a break from the pill. It's not the only form of birth control (as we all know) so i have plenty of options on my pill free month (if circumstances did lead to boyfriend and i having alone time) so i know i'll be ok.

Also, i kinda wanna change the time i take the pill (i usually take it just before bed, but was thinking of taking it a little earlier in the evening) so the break will allow me to do that too.

Chick flicks i like: 'Starter for ten'.

Is this actually a chick flick? I'm not sure, but i really like this film.

It's set in 1985, and it's about a student who makes the uni's 'university challenge' quiz team, and how he falls in love with a team member, not realizing that the right girl for him is actually his friend.

It's actually a lot better than i've made it sound there. The scene where the main character has an akward encounter with team mate (and love interest) Alice's parents (who are in the nude) in the kitchen in the middle of the night is really funny.

It was my mum that told me about this film, and i loved it. And 90 minutes is just right time, as it doesn't feel too rushed or too dragged out either.

Tuesday, 4 June 2013

Ok, i need to have a massive rant.

I can't live in my house anymore. I am sitting here listening (or trying to listen) to my mp3 and all i can hear is the bloody neighbours techno dance trash, their bloody kids (and the rest of the neighbourhood kids who they take in) screaming. Their dogs bark 24/7 and they are drunk/stoned and yelling at each other.

I can't take anymore. I need out. I have no more tolerance to these people.

I can't go to sleep until their kids/ dogs stop making noise (thats about midnight) and i've tried earplugs and they don't even work. I get woke up in the middle of the night when their dogs decide to bark for no reason at all, and then for the rest of the day it's d.i.y, loud bloody techno crap, the adults screaming at each other, doors banging shut every time either them or their 100 daily visitors decide to have a smoke.

I just need a little peace. I can't even use my bedroom during the day due to next door's noise. I hate living in this bloody estate.

And Danny Trejo is advertising something too.

While i was posting about the Simon Baker ad, the ad breaks were on, and some product was being advertised by Danny Trejo.

This will interest my boyfriend, as he's a fan. I'm not so interested, sure, i've seen stuff he's in, but i haven't watched a lot of his stuff.

There's also George Clooney who advertises coffee. Bruce Willis advertises sky. So did Jennifer Aniston.

There's quite a lot of celeb's advertising stuff. If you like the celeb, does it make you wanna buy the product?.

For me, no. I buy new products regardless of who advertises them. I buy them because the advert has made me curious to what the product is like.

I'm sure there's a few people who do buy celeb-endorsed products. And if it works, why should the advertisers stop doing it?.

Just seen the Simon Baker aftershave ad.

I saw a poster for some aftershave (i can't remember the name of it) about a week ago, and i thought it looked like Simon Baker, but wasn't sure.

I had a look on Google, and found out it was him.

And now i have seen the advert. It features a woman standing in the rain, and Mr. Baker gives her an umberella, and then walks off.

My friend Nicole has a huge crush on him (i can understand why) so i know she will enjoy the advert. I have been a fan of his since 'the guardian' (he was great in that) so i will enjoy the advert too.

Not liking 'the break up'.

My mum is watching this, and i decided to watch it with her, and it's actually one of the worst film's i've ever seen.

The entire story seem's to be Gary (who is an immature, selfish jerk) and his now ex Brooke (who comes across as an uptight bitch) arguing with each other. Nothing seem's to be happening and it's chick-flicks like this i don't like.

Maybe it's just me, and i'm sure some people love it, but it's not my thing. I won't be watching this again.

So i've had a bit of a disaster today.

Got a new bookcase today. All good, as i read the instruction's and realized that i could put it together easilly.

Or i thought i could. Turn's out it's not that easy. As i was putting a screw through the side, i forgot to move my hand, and the screw cut my hand. I know i said i liked blood, but not mine.

Maybes i should have bottled some of the blood, as the doctor can never get blood when i need a blood test. They poke and prod for ages, and then just give up. And then i get asked if i wan't to donate blood.

Anyway, i had some chocolate, and watched 'The big bang theory' and feel much better. And i managed to get the bookshelf together (with my mum's help) so it was all good at the end.

I really liked 'the switch'.

'The switch' is a quirky romantic comedy, starring Justin Bateman and Jennifer Aniston, and it's the story of girl tells boy she wants a sperm donor, girl meets sperm donor, boy gets drunk and loses donor's sperm so replaces sperm with his own, and girl get's pregnant.

It may not be the 'typical' rom-com stiry, but i like it because it is different. Another thing i like about it is that Wally (the main guy) isn't the 'typical' rom-com hero. He's uptight and annoying at times and he's just a regular guy (no six pack's involved). And i loved the film for letting is have a 'regular' hero.

Jeff Goldblum is also in this, and i do tend to love anything he does, so that helped too.

My mum loves rom-com's, and i watch them too. There's a few i like and most i hate, and while 'the switch' isn't the best movie in the world, it's not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.

I still love the Backstreet boys.

When i was growing up, BSB were my favourite boy band. Yeah, i liked Take That and Boyzone and Westlife, but i liked BSB's song's more, so they were my favourite.

I love 'As long as you love me' and 'Quit playing games (with my heart)' and i remember singing karoake to 'I want it that way' once.

I may not be 15 anymore, but i still like to listen to BSB once in a while, and i still love all of the songs (with the exception of 'show me the meaning of being lonely'. I dunno why, but i've never especially liked that song.) and know them word for word.

I think the music of the Backstreet boys is always gonna be something i love. It's always gonna be something that reminds me of growing up, and brings back happy memories, and i don't care if it's 'not cool' to listen to their music anymore, i will always find time to listen to some of their music.

Saturday, 1 June 2013

What i wanted to be growing up.

I wanted to be a nurse when i was really little. I think everyone in my class at the time wanted to be a nurse, so it was a very popular ambition.

Then i wanted to be a vet. And then after watching one too many episodes of 'animal hospital' i realized that i don't like to see animals in any kind of danger or suffering, so that kinda put an end to that ambition. I couldn't burst into tears everytime i saw a patient.

And then i wanted to be a fashion designer. I don't know if i have grown out of that ambition yet, as i still do drawings and sketches. I think that is always gonna be my dream job, along with being a writer.

Life got in the way of me living out my dreams, but is that an excuse?. I don't think so, and i have idea's and one day i may have my own little boutique somewhere, or a best selling novel. Hey, there's nothing wrong with having a little bit of ambition.

So it turn's out that i love gore and blood.

For ages, i avoided any movies that had gore and excessive blood in them. I thought i'd get a little 'queasy' at the images, but i thought i'd be brave and watch a gory(ish) movie.

And i loved it. I have no idea why i thought i'd be squeamish, but i'm not. I remember when i was a kid, watching 'children's hospital', they'd show some kid having open heart surgery (or some kinda other operation) and i'd be sitting there fascinated by the blood and things.

I was a weird child.

I lost a lot of who i was when i had my anxiety and depression issues, and i kinda had to 're-discover' who i was, so i think me re-discovering that i'm not really squeamish (and whatever i have issue's with, i can get over) is just another sign that i'm getting back to the person that i used to be.
