It had been a long day, and Vonda was burned out. Sure, she was used to cases she worked on getting to her, but something about this case made her feel uneasy.
Almost afraid.
She lived alone, and the murder's all happened in the part of New York where she lived. She was also in the same age frame as the victims.
"I think we're done for today" she said, standing up and stretching. "I know i need some time away from my this case".
Jay agreed. "Any plan's for tonight, then?".
She hadn't. And the last thing she wanted to do was go home to an empty house. She had an idea.
"Do you have to get home?." she asked, sounding casual. "I mean, do you have anyone at home who's waiting for you to get home from work?."
"No one at all" Jay said, sounding sad at his reply. "I live alone."
For some reason, Vonda felt happy about that reply. No one waiting for him.
No one to stop her from spending time with him.
"No date, or anything?." she was trying ro sound casual, but she knew he was smart enough to know what she really meant.
He shook his head. "I'm single. Divorced, actually." he admitted, still sounding sad at his reply. "I work a lot. I usually don't have time for dating."
She was glad. "Divorced?. me, too." she replied. Her memories of her ex husband weren't good, but they were married straight out of school, and he resented her rich parents, and privaliged upbringing, and she couldn't take his anger at his rich father who had left him and his mother with nothing, after gambling his fortune away.
"Really?." Jay sounded surprised by her admission.
"Long story" she told him, as she put on her jacket. She decided to bite the bullet. "I don't really fancy being on my own, and i would really like some ompany." she smiled at him."Would take out and a movie at my place sound good to you?".
Jay nodded, getting to his feet."That would sound like a very good way to spend the evening."
